Q & A
How does laser hair removal work?
Laser uses pulses of energy that are attracted to the pigmentation of the hair to reach down to the hair follicle. The energy heats and destroys the follicle without harming the surrounding skin.
What type of lasers do you use?
At Excy Laser, our certified technicians use the Alexandrite and Yag laser by Cynosure. These lasers are FDA approved for permanent hair reduction and are considered the most effective lasers on the market. Our lasers are safe on all skin types.
How many treatments will I need?
On average, we recommend at least 6 sessions. But everyone is different and there are a variety of factors including skin and hair type that affect your results. Because of your hair follicle cycle, your sessions should be every 6-8 weeks. The laser only responds to hair that is in the Anagen phase.
Why can’t I tan between sessions?
When you darken the pigmentation on your skin, you greatly increase the risk of getting burned or causing discoloration. For best results we recommend daily use of SPF.
Why do I need to shave prior to my treatment?
To ensure that the laser is reaching down to the hair follicle, we ask that you shave prior to your treatment. We prefer that you shave on your own to minimize discomfort during treatment. If you choose not to shave, there is a $10 service charge.
What are the side effects?
The immediate side effects are minimal. Redness and bumps are common and usually subside within 2-24 hours.
